As a followup to the scale exercises I posted on Monday, let me offer a few related exercises using arpeggios.
Again, the scale figures are fundamental in most modern music, so I feel that practicing them is a great tool for beginners (and can’t hurt for the experienced). On to the fretboards:
I approach these both in the same way. In each case, we’re playing the chord triad from top to bottom (fifth, third, root). I play the arpeggio, then slide down one fret on each finger (raising the key a half-step), and progress down the majority of the neck of the bass.
If you desire, you can play this one backwards as well (I often return up the neck doing it in this fashion).
It really is just a simple extension of what I talked about on Monday, but these should add a little bit of variety to the training.
