(Almost) No Trash: An Inspiration

There are some incredible people out there doing great work for conservation, sustainability and the whole green movement.

One of them is Sustainable Dave, who blogged the entire year of 2008 about drastically reducing his trash output. I found out about the feat here.

Over the course of 1 year, Dave produced less than 300 pounds of garbage, the average output of a normal American in 6 days! That’s better than one sixtieth (1.67%) of the average garbage output! Obviously, Dave put a lot of work into achieving this, but it’s not unreasonable, looking at some of his techniques, for many people to make similarly impressive garbage reductions. Even if we do 6 times worse than Dave, its a 90% reduction in garbage. That, multiplied across thousands, or millions of people would have an incredible impact!

I was already moving towards becoming more active in the green movement, but this inspiration is pushing me over the edge. This is my first post in the “green” category. I’m not sure where it’s going yet, but it’s an area of the world that I think needs change, and leaders for that change, so I think it is appropriate for my website.
